Ok, so I didn’t quite realise just how many avid cupcake fans there are in the world - 2009 is clearly the year of the cupcake revolution! As I am of course loyal to the readers of londonerseye.com, I decided to check out some suggestions for myself.
So….on a grim saturday afternoon (yes London, where has the sunshine gone?) I set off to west London on another cupcake bakery hunt to brighten up the day.
So not strictly british but very firmly London based, Hummingbird bakery very much lived up to expectations. …

Frozen yogurt has taken off in the capital recently, and as a healthy alternative to ice cream, health conscious Londoners looking for a sweet fix have a wide selection at their feet. I’ve become a little obsessed with some of the frozen yoghurt shops on offer, as I’m easily sucked in by brightly coloured designs…..here are my top three in order of preference!

So, I think it’s safe to say that England is very much home to the classic cup of tea. ‘Cuppa’, ‘builder’s tea’, ‘english breakfast tea’, call it what you may, but the fact of the matter is that you can’t beat a good british brew. Some say a good cup of tea can cure the world of problems, others suggest it might even cure aids. What I can assure you however, is that a good cup of tea will ease your weary bones after a long day of sightseeing in …

If there’s one thing that Londoners generally lack, it’s a bit of private outside space to park the bum with some pals and have a picnic. Tis a rare occasion when someone has a patch of grass to go with their flat! This is why I would imagine London parks far exceed many others away from the capital. The best thing is that on a sunny day, everyone gets outside and sociable. The sun shines, the barbeques come out and the atmosphere is brilliant.
Here are a few of my favourite …

If you didn’t know already, London is definitely peddle happy! A great way to see the city, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to get around on two wheels as oppose to four. If you’re sick of the tube and fed up of spending half your day underground, why not get kitted up and join the cyclists out there. It also makes you realise how close everything is, and how small London actually is as a city. A word of advice for example - never get the tube …

No joke, this was definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a long time. Quietly tucked away down a side street off Kingsland Road, Waterhouse Restaurant ticks both taste bud and eco credential boxes in one. Overlooking Regents Canal within a unique development of social and private housing, Waterhouse is one of a kind. Designed by Waugh Thistleton architects and using the likes of renewable energy, a wormery and their own filtered water system, Waterhouse definitely makes you all green again. The setting was …

If you’re wandering around central London and sick of the sight of Topshop and Oxford Street, the Photographers’ Gallery is a hidden oasis of cultural calm. As the largest public gallery specifically dedicated to the medium of photography, the international exhibition programme and showcasing of new talent is worth keeping an eye out for. As one of my favourite galleries to visit, I caught up with Sam from the press office and curator Claire Grafik (yes, what an amazing name?!) to ask them a few questions.
How long has the Photographers’ …

If you haven’t been indoctrinated into the wholesome goodness of Leon, then now is the time. A restaurant with it’s roots firmly set in London, there are eight branches around the capital, each with a unique style and a great atmosphere. My particular favourite is the one in Liverpool Street, with a partial open plan layout, sink in sofas and odd furniture. Leon is great for a Sunday afternoon; ice lemon tea, chicken aioli wrap and paper in hand.
I caught up with co-founder Henry to ask him a few questions.
