Inamo asian fusion restaurant – Wardour Street

Inamo is cool asian fusion restaurant slap bang in the middle of Soho on Wardour Street. Usually the term ‘asian fusion’ makes my skin crawl and brings on a cold sweat, basically asian food works so it if it isn’t broke don’t try and fix it by adding a western spin of inappropriate flavours and tastes!
However Inamo have got the genre just right and created a BladeRunner style eating environment to make you feel like you are in a trendy Japanese sushi bar in downtown Tokyo as soon as you step into the restaurant.
Inamo has been around for a while now and it’s unique table service and concept is probably familiar to a lot of people out there however if like me you hadn’t heard of the place before checking it out here’s the run down.
Waiting staff are only present as you enter to ask whether you have visited the restaurant before in case they need to explain the interactive tables and ordering system. Once you have taken your seats in the neon glow and classy black wood décor it’s time to start fiddling with the interactive table.
Similar to Microsoft Surface the table acts like a giant iPhone and you use a mouse area to select your food and drinks from the table like using a shopping website. The system is easy to use and features a number of quirky aspects like games and a kitchen webcam.
Once you have selected your food from the array of sushi, sashimi platters and asian style ‘large dishes’ which feature the likes of Black Cod, Yuzu Mussels and Cinnamon Chicken (which was a touch over powering!) you confirm your order and sit back and wait for the staff to bring your food.
It would be easy for Inamo to hang the dining experience on the interactive table and futuristic settings, however the food for the most part is pretty good. Some dishes are a little pricy but the idea of cheap sushi is not too pleasant! The plates are beautifully presented and the large dishes are pretty big but you do have to order rice to make a full meal. All the food is very well made and the sushi is almost as good as in Japan…
This is a great restaurant for a special occasion or when trying to impress on date night and the unique dining experience would help to break the ice or any awkwardness provided both diners are adventurous eaters. The prices are a little on the heavy side as are some drinks but sometimes it’s worth going all out for a good meal.
There are plenty of options for after dinner as Wardour Street is surrounded by bars of all price scales and you can even use the table to find where to go next or book a taxi!
