London book locations
The last few books I have read have been set in London so it set my mind wondering what other books feature London as there main locations. After a bit of searching on the Internet it turns out loads of books and novels have been set in London.
It just goes to show you how varied the city of London is and how it can be used and seen in lots of ways from horror, children’s stories and even the magical settings of the Harry Potter books.
1. Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle features Holmes office which is set in 221B Baker Street various London spots pop up in different stories.
2. In Dracula by Bram Stoker Hampstead Heath and various London settings feature as locations throughout the horror story.
3. Jekyll and Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson features several locations in central London.
4. CS Lewis was inspired to write the famous novel, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”, while walking on Hampstead Heath.
5. The Sweeney Todd, Demon Barber shop is in Fleet Street which is written by George Dibdin Pitt
6. Brick lane by Monica Ali is surprisingly set in the East of London and namely Brick Lane
7. Oliver Twist written by Charles Dickens features various tales in London in ye olde times
8. Bridget Jones Diary written by Helen Fielding is set and was filmed in various London locations
9. High Fidelity the Nick Hornby book, not film was set in the various suburbs of London.
10. Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie before they head off to never never land was set in Kensington Gardens.
11. Down and out in Paris and London by George Orwell was unsurprisingly set in part in London.
12. Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books is hidden away in central London. The capital city also features heavily in London except for when it’s in Hogwarts and other magical locations.
This is a cool little website where you can find books sent in an area where you live in London (if you do that is?) just put in your postcode and it tells you where the different books are set.
