Nelly Duff recently presented a Toasters Production exhibition called ‘Trespassers of the World Unite‘ in an old wine cellar in Shoreditch. The exhibit showcased fourteen artists work, which has all been produced along the Toaster theme and was chosen to be hosted specifically in Hoxton as it is somewhere that most of the artists have thrown up Toasters in the various formats in the past. Including stickers, paint and stencils.

The Toaster movement was spawned from a kitchen table discussion at a New Years Eve party in Wolverhampton (of all places) back in the late nineties. Since that fateful discussion, which began as a way to make a mundane object famous, the toasters have been seen all over Europe and the rest of the world in various sizes and formats.

The exhibition contains the work of fourteen artists, which has been hand chosen. The exhibition underwent a year of planning and has been produced in a number of European cities. The set up of the exhibition is also something of an art piece as the space has been decked out in the existing materials of the wine cellars including packaging crates, industrial lights and various hauling crates. These have been somewhat precariously placed and work extremely well to highlight to rugged background of the work on display. Also the settings showcase the work extremely well and remind the viewer of the origins that they have been produced and conceived in.

The work itself is staggering and really showcases the different varied backgrounds that graffiti artists have. This is achieved through artwork, which showcases numerous different disciplines and creative avenues. For example each piece is completely different and clearly every artist has approached the Toaster theme from a different viewpoint and skill set. Some pieces clearly display a vested interest and upbringing in graffiti while other artwork is firmly established in the fine art realm.

As the exhibition was only running for a short time we headed down there at took some choice pictures of the artwork in the hopes that people can get a feel of what it was like and the high quality of the artwork.
